An automatic watch, especially one crafted with care like Modus Seiko , is built to last for years, even decades. But like any precision piece, it deserves a little TLC to maintain its performance, aesthetics, and longevity.

Here are our tips for taking care of your watch every day .

Wear it regularly

Automatic movements like the Seiko NH35 or NH36 are powered by wrist movements.
The more you wear your watch, the more active it remains.
If you are not going to wear it for several days, remember to:

  • Wind it manually if your model allows it (15 to 20 turns of the crown)

  • Use an automatic winder if you have multiple watches

Clean it regularly

Dirt, dust, or perspiration can accumulate on your watch. To keep it shiny:

  • Use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe the case and glass

  • For the bracelet (steel or rubber), a little warm water and mild soap are sufficient

  • Avoid getting leather straps wet, which can warp or wear out prematurely

Never use abrasive products or solvents.

Protect it from shocks

Even though our watches are robust, a violent shock can damage the internal mechanism or the glass.
Avoid wearing it for high-impact activities (manual work, contact sports, etc.) and remove it when there is a risk of involuntary shock.

Be careful with water

All our watches are water resistant to 50 meters , which allows:

  • Resist rain, hand washing, splashes

  • Wear the watch in the shower or in a quick bath (even if this is not recommended for leather straps)

However, they are not designed for diving or intensive water sports. For this, it is better to opt for a watch with a water resistance of 100 meters or more.

Avoid magnetic fields

Powerful magnets (speakers, magnetic clasps, smartphones, etc.) can affect the accuracy of a mechanical movement.
Keep your watch away from these sources, especially when it is not on your wrist.

Have it serviced every 4 to 5 years

Like a car, an automatic watch needs periodic maintenance.
Every 4 to 5 years , it is recommended to:

  • Check for leaks

  • Clean and lubricate the movement

  • Adjust the precision

At Modus Seiko , we can direct you to partner watchmakers or take charge of certain operations.

Store it in a safe place

When you are not wearing your watch, keep it:

  • In its original case

  • Or on a suitable support (watch box, winder, etc.)

This protects it from dust, humidity and shocks.

In summary

A well-maintained watch is a watch that lasts through the years without failing.
At Modus Seiko , we carefully assemble each piece in our workshop in Lyon. It's up to you to extend this quality by taking care of your watch every day.

A beautiful watch is made to last. Give it the attention it deserves.
